In that situation it is quite common to have several people working on the same project from systems that are setted with different languages. In that situation, using different "translations" to name the _same_ symbols is not acceptable. And the proposed solution "don't like it? Change it yourself" is not serious. This problem is not only with French: Spanish Greek characters are also "translated". In fact, some translations are wrong: "epsilón" is not a Spanish word...
