In the files template and doc1, paragraph style "heading 1" has no numbering style. But the paragraph style "heading 1" in the file doc-appendix has the numbering style "Appendix". So, in the master document is no numbering style assigned to "heading 1" and you appendix numbering is missing. As a workaround, you can assign to (e.g.) "heading 5" another numbering format (A,B,C,...) with "Tools > Outline Numbering" in the master document. With that you can create your appendix outline numbering in both the master and the slave document.
