------- Additional comments from [email protected] Tue Jan 27 16:01:18 +0000 2009 ------- My personal take, as now reflected in our builds, is that it's too ugly for words ;-) and that instead we should use the new, replacement GIO infrastructure exclusively, which has the following benefits: * one fewer build dependency - only a (more recent) glib rather than the separate gnome-vfs * no nasty threading issues * improved startup performance / hack removal Of course - that's fine for us - but you'll need glib-2.16+ at least to compile against (libgio is a separate DSO though, as part of the glib library set - so shouldn't be a big issue). Also, the existing gio code needs more work & testing. I guess that (perhaps) ties into long Solaris release schedules and so on. Either way - since you can't enable both gnome-vfs and GIO support in OO.o and GIO has been the canonical up-stream solution for a year or so, hopefully we can deprecated gnome-vfs at least in the community builds soonish. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
