rene: I tend to disagree that the definition how SAL handles symlinks is wrong.
UCB does it the same way, btw. A symlink has its own set of properties, that is
independent from the link target, like last modified time. I'm not aware of any
file access API that handles symlinks completely transparent. You need a chance
to distinguish between the link and the real object. Even an 'ls' for a link
gives you the link's properties  and not the properties of the target. 

Is it okay for you if I close the task as 'invalid'?
