Discovered that problemis related to necessary modules not being required by the
rpm's on install/uninstall.
In other words, the problem is an oversight in the configuration of the
installation program (version rpm for linux, without java).
The modules which should have been required are :
1) ooobasis-fr-binfilter-3.0.1-9379.i586.rpm
2) openoffice.org3-fr-3.0.1-9379.i586.rpm
3) openoffice.org-ure-1.4.1-9379.i586.rpm (accepted version from 3.0)
Review of events :
Initially 2.4.x was installed.
Afterwards, 3.0 was installed, leaving 2.4.x installed.
Next, 3.1 was installed, without the modules mentioned above.
3.1 appeared to work, but it probably was actually 2.4.x
I noticed that loading a ODF spreadsheet invoked 2.4.x, so I uninstalled 2.4.x
and 3.0
With 3.0 I uninstalled the equivalent of the third rpm listed above, which was
being used by 3.1.
The uninstallations were made with the Mandriva 2008.1 package manager.
Result as reported in this bug :
3.1 would not run when attempting to load an ODF document.
Uninstalling and reinstalling 3.1 did not work, as the necessary rpm's were not
required during installation.
Notes :
1) The first 2 rpm's listed were simply not required on
installation/uninstallation, as they should be.
2) The third rpm listed was not required on install, but it may have been
because the equivalent rpm from version 3.0 was installed.
However I was able the uninstall the 3.0 equivalent rpm without problem even
though openoffice 3.1 apparently depended on it.
If only the 3.1 version of this rpm is installed, it isn't uninstallable without
uninstalling the rest of the 3.1 package.
(Note that the Mandriva 2008.1 graphical package manager was used in all cases.)
So in both cases, the rpm package dependancies need to be corrected, to require
the 3 rpm's of the appropriate version on install/uninstall.
Note that this issue affects the french-language rpm package without java
included.
