I just noticed that this 100k saving is on x86-64.  On x86, the score is 
14582050 (original, visibility, non-stripped) vs. 14573463 (patched, 
visibility, non-stripped) which looks good; but when stripped, it is 10814088 
(original, visibility, stripped) vs. 10818068 (patched, visibility, 
stripped) - so we lose 4k there.

I am currently experimenting with a split of svx into a svxcore, and the rest, 
and I'd need this patch for this anyway (otherwise we would have to expose 
lots of these symbols, so - is the 4k bearable? ;-)  I'll measure more of the 
svx split tomorrow...
