Languages that use "special" characters of course need a font that has these
characters included. This applies for Chinese, Japanese, and all CTL (Complex
Text Layout) languages like Arabic that do NOT mainly consist of "[A-Z]
letters".

By default, many systems only support western languages. As soon as a font is
installed that DOES support Arabic characters, the characters should always be
displayed. The so-called font fallback in the office "asks" the systems font
configuration if there is a font having "this" character. If so, that one will
be used. Problem: Some fonts "fake" having certain characters but do not (call
them "broken fonts") thus the fallback fails in some cases.

Solaris 10 and older had problems with the font configuration, so that
"hard-setting" a working font is needed in some cases. Means: Have it on the
system AND set the font in the document to see it correctly.

If this works (description tells so), the Office works fine and it is a problem
of the operating system (resp. its font configuration).

Set to "Worksforme".

SBA->kristynakitz: What System do yo use? Please comment, thank you.
