What seems to be going on is that if trying to drag and drop a slide into a new position, this will only be successful if the drag-and-drop is fully completed within the time before the selection "jumps back" to the previously selected slide (which is usually on the order of 1 second). If the attempted drag-and-drop takes longer, it will be applied to the previously selected slide, not the currently selected slide.
