I can reproduce this issue in OOo310m9 (Windows XP)
My steps:
1. Choose Tools/Mail Merge Wizard
2. In dialog box "Insert address block" choose "Select Different Address List"
3. In dialog box "Select Address List" choose "Create"
4. After you create new address list, save it, and follow the wizard to the end.
5. Choose Tools/Mail Merge Wizard
6. In dialog box "Select starting document" choose "Start from existing
document"
click button "Browse"
7. Choose document you want to edit.
8. Follow steps of wizard till step "Edit document"
9. Click button "Edit Document". It is not possible to edit this document. It is
"Read only"
