When I re-opened the document later, the equation was in the right place, but it had also been placed in the following equation (see document attached - as soon as I've found out how to do it - the equaiton I had entered was eq. 1b, and it invaded eq. 2). IIRC, the equation it has replaced was created in OOo1.4, and has also been converted to and then from a Word doc at some point.
