2005 -------
An update:

I corrected the formula that had been replaced (eq. 2), by deleting the wrong
equation, and insering a new one.  Then I closed the document, re-opened it, and
lo and behold, the new eq. 2 appeared in the place of the old equation 1b, that
had previously replaced eq. 2.  I'll attach a document as an example.

Has quantum tunnelling been observed before in OpenOffice?  :-)
