Running XP Home Version 2002 with Service pack 3[all updates], on a PC. [AMD
Athlon 1.68GHz , 1.21 GB of RAM. I have problem with speed of OO, and
soffice.bin hogging CPU. This may be a repeat of issue 60450 but I did not
fully understand the issue description

The problem was first noticed immediately after installing OO 3.0.0. replacing
OO. 2.4.1.[I need it as I sometimes need to open .docx and .xlsx files]. Before
3.0.0 speed was not an issue.
After noticing the slow speed of opening files and printing, I re-installed
OO2.4.1 for use with all except these new microsoft files [which I save as .odt
files before printing], but the speed problem remained.

I next installed extra memory, and cleared out un-needed files from the hard
disc. I thought the print speed might be caused by my printer driver [Epson
Stylus D92], so I downloaded new driver and installed that. The problem remains.
Since then I have used Task Manager to try to identify the problem. It seems ,
looking at processes, that soffice.bin hogs the CPU.

Example of slow printing [with no other programs except firewall and antivirus,
which I have been using for some time before this problem arose, and which are
not , it seems , consuming CPU while I am using OO.]: No other files open in OO
while doing these timings.

The attached .ods file was originally created using OO3.0.0..build 9358 ]. With
OO 3.0.0. the file took 5 mins to print. Throughout the wait for print to
occur, soffice.bin uses70-100% CPU, 126,125K Mem usage, shows “not responding”
in task manager . It needed 90secs before the print dialogue appears. Commit
Charge 515M/1823M, then a further 3.5 mins, with soffice.bin still using 80-100%
CPU, before appearing in printer window, then rapid printing. While waiting for
printing , if any files are open with OO, none can be used, as the program,
[calc and writer] are “not responding”.

I saved the file then re-opening with OO2.4.1. It took 2mins to open with
OO2.4.1. soffice.bin using 80-100% CPU . No other process was showing more than
2%. Printing , took 90 secs to open printer dialogue, a further 5.0 mins to
appear in printer window, when it printed within a few seconds. All the wait
time soffice.bin was hogging 80 to 100% of CPU. No other process showed any
significant activity in task manager.

I tried a similar exercise with the attached spreadsheet. This arrived by email
as .xlsx file , so was opened with OO 3.0.0. It has 8 sheets and took 1 min 20
secs to open. I saved it as .odt file, edited the first sheet and printed just
the first sheet. . This needed 1 min 30 secs for the print dialogue and a total
6 mins 45 secs before printing.

What , if anything can I do. ?

Printing text, [unformated] I now use Notepad but I have no reasonable method to
print text with formating or spreadsheets.

I would attach the files but I cannot see how to do this
