I had previously saved the working draft during the "personalize" step - should I not have done that? It seems like I had spent enough time and effort that I ought to have been allowed to save the work in progress. I noticed that the 3rd and 4th of 4 letters were missing the address block shortly before the crash. On restart OpenOffice said it was going to show the error report tool, but it didn't - got an error when starting it manually, and will send a separate bug report for the error report failure.
