Verified still broken in 1.9.91, but good news.

After extensive searching on the internet I have come to understand the
problem. It is a problem run into by a great number of users, but is
not specific to openoffice.

Specifically is has to do with the old cut-buffer system and the newer
selection buffer system.

A very thorough discussion of this issue can be read at
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2003-August/002167.html

>From what I can tell openoffice 1.1.x implements the "all-ways works"
method, while openoffice 2.0.x implements only the newer selection
method. Thus you end up unable to paste into 2.0.x from older cut-buffer
only applications, which includes nearly every ASCII terminal program.

A mostly works workaround is available via a program called 'autocutsel'
which will transfer selections between the two selection systems. This
reduces overall functionality slightly, as described in the discussion
referred to above, but allows one to almost obtain the behavior as it
exists in 1.1.x. That behavior being the highlight left button drag for
cut, and middle mouse for paste.

In fact with autocutsel you get highlight left button drag for cut in
your terminal application, however, middle button paste still does not
work in openoffice 2.0. While autocutsel does transfer the selection
in the terminal window from the cut-buffer to the clipboard selection
buffer, openoffice 2.0 does not respond to middle button click. Instead
you have to use Edit-Paste or Ctrl-V.

A mildly acceptable solution for me.

However, I'm not sure it is a good general solution. Many unix/linux types
are used to the left button drag = cut / center button = paste paradigm.
As mentioned above oo 1.1.x implements and "all-ways works" solution,
while oo 2.0.x does not.
