I'm not sure how to classify this issue: please excuse me if I have used the
wrong category and subcomponent. I did search the issue list for related
issues, but only found issues talking about the quickstarter and shutting down
windows (e.g. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=7037).

My Environment:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP4
Dell Precision 650, Intel Xeon 2.4GHz, 1GB RAM
OpenOffice.org 2.0 Beta (1.9.91)

The Issue:

When running Microsoft Office tools at the same time as OOo (which I must do,
in my work environment), there are occasions when soffice.bin simply consumes
massive CPU resources (see attached files for debug data). This causes the
system to become so slow that I cannot work effectively. The only solution is
to kill the soffice.bin process. Simply clicking Exit on the quickstarter
doesn't work - soffice.bin remains in memory.

The only way I can reproduce this is by running programs that drive Excel using
OLE automation. Even if I have NO OpenOffice documents open or OOo programs
running (except the quickstarter and tray icon), soffice just grabs huge chunks
of CPU time. Something must be getting into a tight loop or similar.

I used the excellent (and free) procexp.exe tool (from www.sysinternals.com) to
look in to this issue. I have attached two text files containing the processes
running at the time of the problem, and showing the DLLs loaded by soffice.bin
and the handles owned by the soffice.bin process. These files are TAB
separated so can be loaded into Excel or Calc. Someone with more low-level
Windows expertise than I have may be able to get useful information from these.
