I checked with "Ooo 3.1.0 WIN XP multilingual version German UI activated
[OOO310m11 (Build 9399)]" and can confirm the reported effect - or at least
something similar.
1. I rename a document to "mygalle#rytest.odt" in WIN Explorer
2. open with double click from WIN Explorer
3. Modify contents
4. Menu 'File -> Save' (OOo dialogs)
Works fine
5. Modify contents
6. Menu 'File -> Save as'
7. Change name to "mygalle#rytest1.odt"
8. Press 'Save' button
Expected: should be saved
Actual: Error Message "Error Saving the document "mygalle#rytest:
Nonexistent object. Path to the file does not exist"
Works fine with OS file dialog.

What does "Openoffice gives blank save as ..." mean? pls. attach screanshot and
further information. Can you reproduce my results?
