I use Ubuntu 9.04 which ships with OpenOffice3. I recently installed a clean
version on a new hard disk. From that point on my OpenOffice documents have not
saved the cursor position. This is very inconvenient as I regularly edit
several OpenOffice documents, and I like the page to open where I last left
off.

I have searched all OpenOffice menu options and Linux configuration files many
times, and I can see no way of saving the position of the cursor. I have asked
at the Ubuntu Launchpad OpenOffice forum and my question has gone unanswered.

I have searched this OpenOffice forum, and all I came up with was the query
33685, which related to OpenOffice 1.1.2. Here it was stated that the method of
saving the cursor position was to go to Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org >
Views, and check "Restore Editing View". There is no such menu option in
OpenOffice3, or anything like it, that I can find. Also, I can see no mention
of saving the cursor position in any OpenOffice3 helpfile.

My previous installations/editions of Ubuntu/OpenOffice have always saved the
cursor position. Even my previous intallation of Ubuntu 9.04 /OpenOffice3 saved
the cursor position, but that was an upgrade from a previous edition (I have
been upgrading this installation since Ubuntu 7.10). It was when I decided the
time had come for a nice clean installation on a new SATA HD that the problem
started.

An interesting detail is that I retained my old PATA hard disk with the old
upgraded installation of Ubuntu 9.04 with OpenOffice3 The strange thing is that
when I use my new clean installation of OpenOffice to look at a OO.o3 file on
this old hard disk, then the cursor position is being saved. I can even edit
the old file from my new installation, and save it, and the cursor position is
saved where it was in the document (but I can't save the cursor to any new
position).

I think I must be missing something obvious. I would be grateful if someone
could put me out of my misery and tell me how to do it. My system is Ubuntu
9.04 Desktop 386i with an AMD Athlon 64X2 and an Nvidia graphics driver.
