Forwarding pages for homepage, extensions and templates are now available for
OpenOffice.org. Corresponding pages for StarOffice/StarSuite usage will follow.

The OpenOffice.org URLs to be used are:

http://tools.services.openoffice.org/forward/OpenOffice.org/hompage.jsp
http://tools.services.openoffice.org/forward/OpenOffice.org/extensions.jsp
http://tools.services.openoffice.org/forward/OpenOffice.org/templates.jsp

URLs for StarOffice will be:

http://tools.staroffice.de/forward/StarOffice/homepage.jsp
http://tools.staroffice.de/forward/StarOffice/extensions.jsp
http://tools.staroffice.de/forward/StarOffice/templates.jsp

URLs for StarSuite will be:

http://tools.staroffice.de/forward/StarSuite/homepage.jsp
http://tools.staroffice.de/forward/StarSuite/extensions.jsp
http://tools.staroffice.de/forward/StarSuite/templates.jsp

All those URLs recognize a lang parameter with an iso language code for
selecting the language of the page to which should be forwarded to.
Any other parameter given to those URLs will be forwarded to the forwarded page.

The language selecting mechanism being used compares a list of preferred
languages with a list of available languages to get the to be used language. For
the preferred languages first the one given with the lang parameter is being
considered if available and than additionally also the languages in the HTTP
AcceptLanguage Header which reflects the users preferred language settings in
the browser are being considered together with their specified priority. The
algorithm tries to select the best possible language for the user considering
priority and availability, falling back to different language variants when the
selected variant is not available and if nothing else can be found falling back
to en-US language. Thus if for example a lang parameter for traditional Chinese
has been specified and the page is not available in traditional Chinese but it
would be available in simplified Chinese simplified Chinese would be used.
The lang parameter if present has higher priority than the preferred languages
specified in the browser settings. But if the language specified by the lang
parameter or a variant of that language is not available for the given page the
languages specfied in the browsers settings can give an additional hint of what
would be best suited for the user.

I will attach the java server pages which are actually doing the forwarding for
OpenOffice.org to this issue so that anyone who would like to can have a look to
which pages the forwarding actually would redirect. I used the languages
currently supported, if new ones should be added please drop me a note.

Note that there is currently a problem with the extension websites localization
itself which is being handled with the separate issue. The extension.jsp
forwarding page redirects to the correct URLs but those do currently not work
correctly on the extensions website.
