I can confirm that OOffice version 3.0.1 is the standard one that comes with the
Ubuntu 09.04 (Jaunty) distribution.

In a failed attempt to force Ubuntu to allow me to install 3.1.1 I seem to have
inadvertently fixed the problem with the pie charts...

My sequence was uninstall ooffice 3.0.1 and all associated packages, using the
package manager (synaptic). Fail to install 3.1.1 using the "update" script that
comes with the debian packaged version of ooffice that I downloaded. Reinstate
the 3.0.1 version using synaptic.

My reinstated version of ooffice has a very different graphical feel, it looks
like it's using GTK, rather than my earlier version which looked much more like
the Gnome nautilus interface. Now ooffice does not crash and I can create pie
charts as I see fit...
