I'm writing a document with one section that has two versions. I need to update
both versions. I need to update the rest of the text too, and have it common
(outside) the versioned text. (I'm trying to do this in Open Office. It's easy
in Framemaker, which is what the rest of the group uses.)

Specifically, I need to mark entire sections as belonging to one version or the
other. The paragraphs have to have formatting: italics, superscripts,
subscripts, font and size changes. There also has to be multiple paragraph
types, headings, figures, tables, frames, and images.

>From a UI perspective, I would like to select a region of my document, click
something that says make that region "conditional", and specify what the
condition is. I should be able to use the current mechanism for defining the
condition.
The current mechanism of "if condition then xxx else yyy" is ok. I would always
use "else <blank>", and define many conditions, i.e., version=1.3.2,
version=1.3.3, etc.
The "show hidden characters" should show a special "condition" marker where the
conditional text or variable definition is.
