I got further information about this bug from a user.

To reproduce:
1. Start OpenOffice Writer
2. Type a few lines of text
3. Press Ctrl+A to select all text
4. Click the Format menu, then select Paragraph
5. Check the "Automatic" option for indentation
6. Close the dialog. Note that the selected text is now indented.
7. Click the File menu, select "Save As..." and export the document in Microsoft
Word 97/2000/XP format
