Switch to Page Break Preview.
Set $1 as repeat row.
Make $A$5:$B$10 a print range.
Write something in the area A1:B10.

The area $A$5:$B$10 gets a white background to indicate, that this area will be
printed. If you make a Page Preview or print, you will see that the repeat row
$1 is printed too. The printing behavior is OK, but I like to see it in the Page
Break Preview too.

Suggestion: The repeat row gets a different background, a light gray for 
example.

Same of cause for repeat column.
