No, it is still a bug, not a user error.
I was just not aware of the workarounds!

When i pasted from an outside source a big table with 08-09, 09-10, 10-11 (and
so on) everything below 12-13 changed into a date and simply trying to change it
back to a number through the cell format resulted in it being changed to 40064.

There is a workaround, which is to manually type them again with an ', but that
doesn't mean the bug doesn't exist.
