This looks clearly like a document with the wrong lanuage set.
Set to "worksforme". 

Please check the given proposal from ES to check the paragraph style language
setting (Cursor in paragraph, Context - Edit paragraph style - On Tab "Font" see
listbox "Language").
Note that the language is a characer attribute. So the paragraph style can be
overridden by characer settings. See Format - Character: On Tab "font" you can
set the language for indvidual words (all in current selection while toying
here, of course).
Please tell what the "language status bar control" tells about the language at
the current cursor position. The status bar is the grey something at the bottom
of the Writer window. If all is set correctly, it should read "Eglish (US)".
