sounds very much like issue 21290 (issue 30465) - please try again with a more
recent build.
OOo 1.1.0 is really old, Try with OOo 1.1.4 or one of the milestone builds.
As a workaround insert a soft-hyphen (<ctrl>+<minus>) as first character.
