If so, then your distro is shipping OOo with the KDE4 vcl plug-in. This plug-in is, IMHO, in a sub-optimal condition; it has some issues, among them the StatusBar controls painting issue you describe and I can reproduce in a DEV300_m68 I build myself (notice that OOo release eng. are not building the Dev. snapshots with KDE4 support enabled).
