There must be some broken fonts on your system... I tried now with various
Windows and Linux systems (including SUSE 11 and Ubuntu 9.10) but even your
document and also creating formulas with non-breaking hyphens by myself showed
correctly in the formula.
Also no one else could confirm your problem.
You work with native OOo or the one provided by Novell?
