I'm running Gentoo x86_32 linux.
I had installed app-office/openoffice-3.1.1 from source, but oocalc would hang
and not be able to recover a spreadsheet.
So I switched to app-office/openoffice-bin-3.2.0_rc2
thinking that would fix the problem, but it didn't.

I finally figured out that the problem has something to do with soft symlinks.
(It might also have something to do with nfs filesystems)

I have an nfs-mounted folder server1:/home/user/Desktop/Incomplete
mounted at /home/user/server1 on my workstation pc.
and a "Work" folder with various symlinks to unfinished projects
Work/project1 -> ~/server1/project1

If I have a spreadsheet "Work/ss.ods" which I copy to "Work/project1/ss.ods"
oocalc hangs when opening "Work/project1/ss.ods" but not when opening the
identical file "Work/ss.ods". This is reproducible always.

I can't tell you how many times I've opened a spreadsheet template, filled in
scores of cells and saved to Work/project1/ss.ods, then was unable to reopen the
saved spreadsheet and had to start all over again. oocalc would try to recover
but would just hang. I tried removing ~/.ooo3/.lock and
~/.ooo3/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Recover.xcu
but could never recover my work.
