just tried with OOo 3.1.0 on xp and OOo 3.2.0RC5 on Linux - insert special is
done withing ~ 0.5 seconds following your description.
Please attach you example file here (i have no access to sharebee atm).
Also try with the latest RC - we had some performance fixes for OOo 3.2.
