Picture 1 show the the Wizard include the marked checkbox for the legend (Show Legend) Picture 2 show the same Wizard dialog with unmarked checkbox legend Right? On Picture three as you absolutely correct described, show the Chart without legend. And now the specialty; the Format Dialog with the greyed out Legend menue is only available if you choose the legened into the insert menu. Ok, you are right, its a little bit triky but first you must insert a legend and now you can format them. To insert The Legend you can also use the symbol, but not format them.
