I thought I'd push it up as this issue has been there for a while (6 years). I'd like to add that previewing the word "R&D" in small uppercase shows a small "&" character. Although, once the effect applied, the "&" looks normal. I'm not sure if this is the correct behavior, but it doesn't only apply to numbers.
