I am commenting on OpenOffice 3.1.1.4-1.1.4.i586 (OpenOffice.org 3.1
310m21(Build:9319)) as distributed by openSUSE for 11.2 on 32-bit x86. However,
even if this is not an ooo build I believe the issue is with the main code,
therefore I am posting this here.

A week ago I upgraded to version 3.2.0.5-1.1 but after this upgrade an issue
occured (ISSUE# 109284). Therefore I downgraded again and made sure all system
files (i.e. files contained in the RPM packages) are indeed intact and unchanged
as per rpm system check.

After the downgrade to 3.1.1.4-1.1.4.i586 opening OpenOffice.org Writer with or
without a filename argument gives a crash immediately after the logo occurs but
before the UI is shown.

Here are the steps to reproduce the crash on my system (command lines):

/usr/lib/ooo3/program/soffice.bin -nologo -writer

or

/usr/lib/ooo3/program/soffice.bin -writer

or something like

ooffice /usr/share/kde4/apps/kword/templates/Normal/.source/ColorfulLetter.odt

The issue is independent of the user (and their config files), which I tested by
creating a test user with an empty home directory. I am attaching the strace
output and bzip2'ed core files (compressed by a factor >10, so I thought it
would be useful) from two runs. The command lines are part of the filename, so
they are self-explanatory.

Apart from the apparent bug, Is there a way to restore the previous version? I
thought that re-installing the previous version would get me a running system
but apparently there are dependencies invisible to the user and RPM?

Thanks!
