Dear mechsys,

Thank you for your tips in the issue 93447.
Do you have some patches available, that include your proposed changes?
I can say the following concerning your points of discussion:

Required root privileges: Because we want to use the Solaris specific
installation processes for OpenOffice.org, we deliver the installation set with
Solaris packages. And the installation of this Solaris packages always requires
root privileges. Installation without root privileges would force us, not to use
the system specific Solaris packages.

Installation to /usr: The complete installation of OpenOffice.org is located in
the /opt/ directory. There is only the one package for the system integration,
that contains content that will be installed to /usr. You can simply leave this
package away and everything will be installed to /opt, but then you have to take
care of the system integration of the product.

Please contact for installation issues the newsgroup
"[email protected]". This is better than contacting me directly,
because more people can find an answer or learn from your experiences.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ingo Schmidt-Rosbiegal
