With "Ooo-Dev 3.3.0 multilingual version English UI WIN XP: [DEV300m74 (Build
9487)]" I see a similar problem, but as it seems not the same!
Not reproducible in the same way and for all OLE objects (Paintbrush Picture
will work, for example), only attempt to insert a PDF document will show an
error message "Object Further objects could not be inserted" (may be some
others, too, I did no test all ones). But most OLE objects can be inserted
without any problem.

You see the error message immediately after you double clicked "Further
Objects"? m74 will open the selection dialog.
Did you cite the error message literally?
