* configure a proper font in your gnome-desktop
Systemsettings/Appearance/Fonts.
The font currently used seems to be a special symbol font used to create box-
drawings/ascii art
* uncheck "Use system font for UI display" in OOo's options
If that alone is not enough, setup a font-replacement for "Andale Sans UI" to a
proper font.
* Try vanilla OOo, not the one from your distribution.
