I was simply surprised that it did not work for me. However, I have solved my problem. The 'English spelling and hyphenation dictionary and thesaurus 2009.05.08' extension was still installed, which I thought would still be valid. I now assume that the extension is out of date and not supported (the disable and remove buttons are grayed out, and there is a small symbol that looks like two yellow silhouette portraits) I installed a newer version of the extension, and it now works. I am just surprised that the spell check dictionary did not automatically update on my system.
