2010 -------
automake adds a --disable-dependency-tracking option to configure. In fedora
land recently we started passing this by default to packages going through the
build farm to speed them up somewhat. We have an equivalent env variable of
nodep as TRUE which I imagine most distros already use, but it looks a good idea
to hook it up to a configure --disable-dependency-tracking to follow that
defacto standard.
