I just installed Fedora 12 x86_64 on both referenced machines and the problem no
longer exists. The installed version of OOo shows as 3.1.1-19.28.fc12 (OOO310m19
build 9420) on Linux 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.x86_64. Thanks for all your suggestions.
