i removed all OOo packages that came with SuSE and reinstalled vanilla OOo using
the freedesktop desktop integration which worked flawlessly.
The desktop integration package for SuSE dos not create any icons/starters at
all so you probably have an older desktop integration package installed (did you
ensure to remove it when de-installing OOo via YAST?). If not you might have
starters left without linked icons etc.
Open YAST, search for openoffice, de-install all and re-install using the
freedesktop.org desktop integration.
I invalidate the issue.
