It also was not present with XP SP3. Both machines are now running Windows 7 Professional Edition. All updates have been applied from Microsoft and OpenOffice. The language being used across the board is USA English because I am in the state of Washington in the US of A. The problem occurs with new and existing documents, but ONLY in Windows 7. I don't know why you tried to recreate the problem using XP. Please read my original post to verify that I stated plainly that "I am running OpenOffice 3.2m18 Build9502 in Windows 7 Professional on an H-P dv9230us laptop."
