Indeed, thanks for testing and the suggested patch! An alternative could be to
zero the counter during
initialization... not doing it in the first place saved a bit when it was
originally introduced but now with the
maps being used so extensively a cleaner approach would be better.
A lot of scenarios need to be very carefully tested and reviewed for any
changes in these areas though,
since a refcount underflow would result in much worse problems than a few
leaked bytes.
