@kz: correct my if I wrong, but here is a handling of a special case, which
occurs only if a user make a mistake, that is should not happen at all. Moreover
the checks rely on system calls, as one can perfectly see... If you have no
another suggestion how to optimize the check (which is not necessary IMHO), we
have to live with this performance of Windows/Cygwin/Perl... IMHO "All tools" is
a little "exaggeration", 'cause this case is an error-handling fallback of a
fallback. Is the problem really that big? ;-)
