Can reproduce problems but...
Tested on Windows Vista InDesign CS4, OOo 2.4, 3.2.1 and 3.3.
When loading a Word file (doc NOT docx) containing text in Arial italic,
InDesign displays an Error "Missing Font" and seems to interpret "Arial Italic"
as one single typface name.
But this happens for documents created with all OOo versions: 2.4, 3.2.1 and
3.3.
On the other hand, the Word Viewer has no problem opening our files correctly
displaying Arial italic as it should.
So one could think about an import problem from InDesign's side.
Please attach such an exported document (at best from our current 3.3beta)
