You will notice that the Task Pane in the right hand side shows various slide layouts. Go to 'View' > 'Master' > 'Slide Master'. When you are in the 'Slide Master' view, the task pane switches to 'Table Design'. This change in the task pane tab persists even after exiting the 'Slide Master' view. I am not sure if this was a conscious decision on the part of the developers and/or UI designers.
