Afterthought ...

I have filed this issue just to comply with the policy that all raised
assertions should be filed.  There is clearly something bad happening before the
program raises the assertion.  I think a raised assertion--or even something
more serious--is not a bad thing, and it may even be helpful.

In the Print dialog, as I cycle all the three printers I have defined, the
preview pane continues to say "No pages" and to identify page 0 / 0.  Depending
on what investigation shows, the text of the message may turn out to be not the
best possible.  (Let me tempt Muphry's law by suggesting corrected spelling
"nonexistent" if that word is retained.)
