In Excel (in North America at least), formula parameters are separated by
commas. OpenOffice vanilla builds only permit semi-colon separators.

This is extremely horrible if you use Excel at work, and then try to do anything
meaningful at home with Calc. (And why I don't recommend Calc to anyone.)

Apparently some builds include an option to allow commas. See:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=31390&start=0

This option should be in the base build. (Even if it only works 90% of the time,
that's better than 0%)

Googling the issue finds many people soliciting help as to why their formulas
don't work, and being told to use semi-colons. The real surprise is that no-one
appears to have made this formal request before. I searched:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Feature:Requests
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/FeatureSuggestions
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Calc_Usability_Activities
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Calc/To-Dos/Usability
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/User_Experience/Projects
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/User_Experience_ToDo_List
http://sc.openoffice.org/
and the QA database (and many pages related to the above pages as well as
googles), for any sign of a formal feature request but found nothing. (Just lots
of documentation warning this is a difference, and some incorrect text editor
replace suggestions. eg. =FIND(",",A1) would be converted incorrectly.)

And I searched
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/
for an extension, but again, found nothing relevant.

I suggest that when deciding how important this issue is vs other issues, that
you count all the forum posts from newbies who took the time to ask why their
formula didn't work, to be a vote in favour of this issue.

Suggested keywords: formula, option, comma, semi-colon, usability, user
experience, calc, spreadsheet
