1. There is no way to create a new database manually without a JRE. You just get
the same error no matter which way you try.

i tried it with switched off jre and it worked fine - but that is not the point,
i think? (i do not understand, what you exactly want?)

maybe i was not exactly enough in my text before, because the creating database
wizard is written in c and works without java, but not the other wizards, but
you can make it all manually (if you know how) - else you cannot use the hsql
database, because hsql is written in java, too - but you can create f.e. a new
dbase data source

2. There is nothing informing you prior to download/install that the absence of
a JRE will break the functionality of creating new databases whether manually or
via wizards.

you can inform yourself in readmes, newsqgroups, newsletters, press etc., before
downloading

because it

"during rpm installation, no warning is possible - no bug, but confusing"

RPM has the capacity to check for dependencies during install so how can that be
true? In addition, this is a problem in win32 as well. Are you saying that the
win32 installer also lacks the capacity to check for dependencies?

in strict technical way you are right, that we could do that, but: java is no
dependencie for the office! - if you miss some functions, you can install java
if you want

i hope, now you understand better - this behavior is wanted -> no bug, and if
you do not like it, feel free to write a feature enhancement and/or discuss it
in newslist, newsgroups etc. but not in an 'issue' - in this area we cannot
clear this problem, even if i would want.

thx for your support
