i havent lost any more equations since increased object number which might have
fixed the problem like closed issue
but i am wondering if the problem was the following because i do remember doing
this (save document without closing eqn editor) at random on occation

[by design or not, i find the ability to click the menubar save icon directly
while in the eqn editor window very helpful. i didnt expect it to work when
tried but of course tried anyway :')
i like the feature for late night editing of long eqns which i can incrimentally
backup by hitting save and then going back to add more to the eqn]

0) good:
if click in main document to exit eqn editor before click save button on main
menu and then exit OOo
then no problem editing eqn when restart

1) good:
if save from inside eqn editor and then exit eqn editor and type a main document
word and then save again and then exit OOo
then no problem editing eqn when restart

2) bad:
if
while editing eqn in document if save while still in eqn editor window then exit
eqn editor window by clicking in document and when eqn window is gone continue
by exiting OOo program by clicking <x> in window frame

then
when re-start OOo by double clicking saved document then if go to edit eqn by
double clicking then eqn shows (though sometimes reverts to an older version?)
but eqn edit window doesnt open

but if
then insert-object-formula then opens eqn window
and then delete the blank equation
and then double click the eqn you wanted to edit

then
it successfully opens the eqn window again so you can edit
