2005 -------
So - firstly, this is replicable both in 1.1.4 and m100. It occurs on both Win32
& Unix. To reproduce:

Open both files (cutdown1.odp, a.odp)

        + enter slide sorter view
        + select 'cutdown1.odp' slides 2,3
        + Ctrl-C
        + select A2 in 'a.odp'
        + hit ctrl-v

Notice the 2 slides inserted are duplicates of one of the source slides.

The bug also shows with drag&drop to copy/move slides.

Of course - there are much more pathalogical cases & different variants ;-)
hopefully this will be replicable / usefully small.
