I follow the same procedure on Word 2003 on WinXP.
Switch keyboard to Thai, open a new document, font drop down show
'Angsana New', press a space, the font drop down still is 'Angsana New'.
Until I switch to English keyboard that the font drop down show 'Times New
Roman'.

Consider it a MS Word bug and don't repeat it.

In my opinion, the font drop down should show which font the next
character to be typed will be. That's less confusing.
